75th Anniversary

It's amazing to think that 75 years ago a group of faithful Catholic families gathered with the desire to build a parish community that would have such an impact on the lives of so many. The possibilities of what Christ the King Parish would become were limitless then and continue to be today! 

As we celebrate our Jubilee Anniversary we give thanks to God for Christ the King Parish - church and school. God has blessed us, multiplying the fruits of hard work, the treasures shared, and the investment of time and prayer throughout the years by countless parishioners to make Christ the King a special place to worship, educate children, and instill a love for our Catholic faith into all who call Christ the King home. 

We will observe our 75th Anniversary in many ways throughout the year. Please save the dates below on your calendar! Details about each event will be announced as they approach.

Sunday, December 1st: Advent Lessons and Carols • 4:00 pm
The Christ the King parish choir will be joined by the children's choir to present "Advent Lessons and Carols," a program of Scripture and song that dates to the late 19th century. In this service, we listen to nine Scripture lessons that recount the Fall, the promise of a Messiah, the Incarnation, and the Great Commission to preach the Good News. Each lesson is followed by a carol or other song that reflects on the lesson's message and a brief prayer. We hope you can join us at 4pm and stay for the Advent Dinner at 5:30pm.

Sunday, December 8th: Knights of Columbus presents Breakfast with Santa
The Knights of Columbus will host Breakfast with Santa after the 8am and 10am Masses. Bring a camera for photos. Donations accepted.

Sunday, December 15th: St. Anne's Society presents Cookies with Mrs. Claus
Parish children are invited to attend story time and cookies with Mrs. Claus after the 10am Mass.

Sunday, December 15th: Living Nativity • 5:00 pm
Join us for this sweet reenactment of Jesus' birth by children of the parish. We hope you can join us in the church at 5pm for the show and stay for the Advent Dinner at 5:30pm.

COMPLETED Saturday, April 6th: CK Service Saturday 
As part of Christ the King's celebration of our 75th Anniversary, we will host a CK Service Day on Saturday, April 6th.  We are working with six different service organizations around the metro. Volunteer duties and time frames vary by organization, but we have something to offer everyone! Jesus Christ gave His life for us so we can give ours to help others. What better way to celebrate the Easter season?

Heaven House (volunteers must be Safe Environment compliant)
Time Frame: 10-11am
Duties: Help elderly in-home residents feel special through discussion games, laughter, and/or entertainment. If you have musical talents through song or musical instrument this would be fun for you and the residents.

Gospel of Life Dwelling: St. Clare Convent/Guadalupe Discernment House
Time Frame: 9:30am - 12:00pm
Duties: Help with spring cleaning and assist in landscaping jobs at residences of individuals who help with hospice care to the residents of St. Paul II home.

OKCBeautiful Litter Blitz
Time Frame: 9:30am - 11:30am
Duties: Help take care of God’s creation by picking up litter to keep our Earth beautiful and clean.

OKC Regional Food Bank
Time Frame: 1:30 - 4:00pm
Duties: Help fight hunger in our city. Individuals will help pack and send food to those fighting hunger.

Vagabond Missions
Time Frame: 9:30am - 12:00pm
Duties: Help with post-construction clean-up after a renovation of a building to serve inner-city youth who are seeking a relationship with God. This will include cleaning, moving furniture and light handiwork.

Homeless Alliance 
Time Frame: 9:15am - 11:00am
Duties: Help put together bags of items that can be distributed to homeless individuals in our metro area. This would include making cards of affirmation.

COMPLETED Sunday, April 7th: Organ Concert
Nationally recognized concert organist Todd Wilson will perform an organ concert at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8005 Dorset Drive in Nichols Hills, at 6 pm on Sunday, April 7 as part of the church's 75th anniversary celebration.

The concert is free and open to the public. There will be a reception in the parish atrium immediately following the performance.

Wilson will present works of Marcel Dupré, Johann Sebastian Bach, Florence Price, Charles-Marie Widor, and others on Christ the King's 3-manual, 56-rank Reuter organ.

"We're thrilled to be able to present Todd Wilson in concert," said David Anderson, Music Director at Christ the King. "Todd is one of the finest performers of his generation and it's exciting to have an organist of his caliber perform in this area."

Regarded across America and around the world as one of today’s finest concert organists, Todd is head of the Organ Department at The Cleveland Institute of Music, and Curator of the E.M. Skinner organ at Cleveland’s Severance Music Center.

Wilson has been heard in concert in major cities throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan, and has also appeared in concert with many leading orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra and the LA Philharmonic.

Wilson is often asked to judge national and international playing competitions and has many CD recordings on the JAV, Delos, Raven, and Gothic labels.

Speaker Sheri Wohlfert will spend time with different groups to share her humor and wisdom on Catholic Hospitality and other relevant subjects for our church, school, and homes.

COMPLETED Saturday, June 1st: Legacy Mass and Reception 
Christ the King’s founding families and parishioners who’ve called Christ the King home for 50 years or longer will be recognized at 5:00 Mass. All parishioners are welcome to attend a reception  following Mass. 

If you or your family is part of this special group of individuals, please share your information with us so that your may be recognized at 5:00 Saturday Mass on June 1, 2024 and at a reception in your honor following Mass.

COMPLETED Saturday, October 5th: CK Fun Run • 7:30am - 10:00 am
We are thrilled to announce the 9th Annual CK Run (or walk!) is set for Saturday, October 5, 2024! We are so excited to keep this annual tradition alive, and can't wait to bring the Christ the King community together for a morning of fun, fitness and fellowship! We will continue to create an opportunity for the CK community to gather for a 5K event, a 1 mile fun run or walk and a Toddler Dash.

Over the past years, this event has collectively brought together thousands of runners and walkers, hundreds of school, church and community volunteers, as well as hundreds of cheering neighbors, parishioners, students, parents and grandparents for a few hours of Saturday morning fun and fitness. By running together, cheering for each other, as well as volunteering during the event, our CK community inspires children of all physical abilities to achieve their personal bests. Be on the lookout for challenges and contests for the whole family!

All proceeds directly benefit the CK Community through our donations to Christ the King Catholic School and Christ the King Catholic Church.

COMPLETED Sunday, October 27: Fall Festival/Trunk or Treat • 4:00 - 5:30 pm
The annual Trunk-or-Treat Fall Festival will take place from 4-5:30pm on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Join us in a fun, safe environment! We'll have activities for the kids, food & drinks, trunk-or-treating and a cake walk!

COMPLETED Sunday, October 27: Chamber Music Concert - Miro Quartet • 4:00 pm
The Miró Quartet is one of America’s most celebrated string quartets, praised as "furiously committed" by The New Yorker and recognized for its "exceptional tonal focus and interpretive intensity" by the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Marking 30 years together in 2025, the GRAMMY®-nominated ensemble has performed throughout the world on the most prestigious concert stages, earning accolades from critics and audiences alike. Based in Austin, TX and thriving in the area’s storied music scene, the Miró Quartet takes pride in finding new ways to communicate with audiences of all backgrounds while cultivating the longstanding tradition of chamber music.During their 30th anniversary season, the Miró Quartet appears at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, the Clark Library in Los Angeles, Music@Menlo, Denver Friends of Chamber Music, Chamber Music Detroit, Chamber Music Sedona, Chamber Music Tulsa, String Theory at the Hunter and Hunter Museum of American Art, Music Toronto, International Classical Concerts, BIG ARTS, Blanco Performing Arts, Forbes Center for the Performing Arts, and more. As part of their 30th anniversary season, the Miró Quartet will also be launching new collaborations with saxophonist and actor Steven Banks and bass-baritone Joseph Parrish.

COMPLETED Sunday, November 3rd: Mass with Archbishop Coakley and Eucharistic Procession • 12:15pm
Archbishop Coakley will celebrate the 12:15pm Mass. Adoration will begin at 2pm, followed by a Eucharistic Procession to St. Eugene's Catholic Church at 2:30pm. More details and route to come.

A Eucharistic Procession, just like Eucharistic Adoration, is an extension of the worship of Jesus Christ, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. The supreme act of adoration and the source and summit of the Christian life is the celebration of the Mass, and that celebration is prolonged and intensified through Eucharistic worship outside of the Mass. In Eucharistic Processions, the missionary aspect of the Eucharist is emphasized as we go forth into the world. Not only gazing upon our Eucharistic Lord, but walking with him, we experience what the disciples did 2000 years ago as they walked with Jesus, proclaiming the Good News to the world. A parish community that undertakes a Eucharistic Procession has made the decision to publicly proclaim its belief in Jesus’ True Presence in the Eucharist. By this public witness of faith, the parish invites people in the community to encounter the Risen Lord present in the Eucharistic Host. For those who participate in the procession, it is an opportunity not only to proclaim their faith but also to grow in their faith.  The procession is, finally, an invitation to Jesus himself to be a part of our daily lives, to be immersed in the world in which we live.

COMPLETED Sunday, November 17th: Chamber Music Concert - Rodolfo Leone • 4:00 pm
Described as a “true sound philosopher” (Oberösterreichische Nachrichten), the brilliant Italian-born pianist Rodolfo Leone, whose career was formerly supported by the Amron-Sutherland Fund for Young Pianists at the Colburn School, was the first-prize winner of the 2017 International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna. Rodolfo released his debut album on the Austrian label Gramola in May 2018 and “Piano Jewels” featuring works of Muzio Clementi on Naxos in January 2022.Rodolfo’s recent seasons include a collaboration with James Conlon and LA Opera and debuts with North Carolina Symphony (Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1) conducted by Michelle Di Russo,  San Diego Symphony (Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1) conducted by Michael Francis, Bozeman Symphony (Ravel’s PIano Concerto in G major) conducted by Norman Huynh,  Pasadena Symphony (Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21) with conductor David Lockington, and Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra (Beethoven’s Concerto No. 5, “Emperor”) with Sascha Goetzel; he also performed Beethoven’s Triple Concerto in Walt Disney Hall under the baton of Xian Zhang.
