Baptism

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments.  Through Baptism, we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission:  "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.” (CCC 1213)

Preparation
Parents of infants and young children who are to be baptized at Christ the King should:

• be registered in the parish for at least six months;
• attend Mass regularly and contribute their time, talent and resources for the continued growth of the parish;
• have attended a Baptismal Seminar. This takes approximately 30 - 60 minutes.
  • Parents who have attended within the past 3 years are not required to attend again. 
  • Both parents should plan to attend the Seminar.
  • We encourage you to register in advance but we'd love to see you no matter what!

Adult Baptism preparation is conducted through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).

Godparents

The Godparents help the parents bring the child up in the Faith and serve as a link between the children and the wider Christian community. A godparent must

• be at least 18 years of age
• be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church by participating each week in Mass
• frequent the Sacrament of Reconciliation
• If married, their marriage has been blessed by the Church
• have received all Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation)
• submit a Godparent Affidavit form

Normally each child has a Godfather and a Godmother; however, one Catholic sponsor would be sufficient.  It is desirable that this sponsor be the same when the child is subsequently Confirmed.
