Looking forward to our first week of Knights in Service! Please read the important information below. We are still missing several forms from families. Kindly submit the forms by tomorrow at 5pm, as it greatly helps me ensure that I have everything prepared for Monday.
I currently have a waiting list of 15 people. If your child is unable to attend Knights in Service, please let me know as soon as possible. While I would have loved to have all the students participate, only a few organizations accept junior high students as volunteers.
Please review the spreadsheets above titled Knights in Service 2023. That has the updated driver schedule.
I am missing several forms from the drivers/chaperones. PLEASE review the information provided so you can see what I am missing.
Knights in Service is June 5-9, 8:30am-12pm. Please drop off students at the church. We will be gathering in the Formal Room for instructions before we head to our service locations. This year we have partnered with the Regional Food Bank, GOLD (Gospel of Life Disciples), Feed the Children, HOPE Center, Catholic Charities, and Pepper's Ranch.
For this week of service to be successful I need all the appropriate forms to be filled out.
Student Forms
1) Hope Center Form - If your child is helping at the Hope Center. Please see the attached schedule to learn where your child will be serving. Forms are attached.
2) Feed the Children Form - This form is only for our incoming 8th graders. They are the only ones that are going to serve at this location. Form is attached.
3) Form D - For those students that have participated in youth group or any of my youth activities this past year I have their forms. If your child is an incoming 6th grader please complete this form. https://ckokc.org/form-d-off-site-consent-and-waiver
If you signed up to drive please complete the safe environment training. Many of you are compliant with the training. If you are not compliant Kayla will reach out to you. https://ckokc.org/safe-environment
The Archdiocese has a strict policy that if an adult does not have the Safe Environment training completed they can not help.
The students may be dropped off at 8:30AM in the circle drive in front of the Church Atrium.
Dismissal Monday-Thursday is at 12:00PM.
Friday dismissal at 4:00PM due to our trip to Frontier City.
Students may be picked up at the Church Atrium.
Friday - Fun Day
We will be going to Frontier City on Friday
Fr. Rex will celebrate Mass at 9:00am and we will leave following Mass
I will purchase the Frontier City tickets in advance. Frontier City ONLY accepts cashless payments. Students will need to use a credit card or a prepaid card. Please plan accordingly.
Please have the students bring money for lunch.
Frontier City Drivers/Chaperones
Please join us for Mass on Friday morning at 9:00AM so that we are prepared to leave as soon as Mass concludes.
We will leave Frontier City at 3:30PM so we can be at the church by 4:00PM.
Weather
Several of our service projects consist of outdoor work. Please have the students wear appropriate clothes. Please have them bring a water bottle.
If it rains or if bad weather is predicted some organization will cancel on us at the last minute. If this happens the students will have the option to stay for games and movies at the church or are welcome to be picked up.
Driver Schedule
The Driver Schedule is challenging to plan. It might change before Knights in Service week. I will keep everyone posted on any changes.
Towards the bottom of this email you will also find the driver schedule. Please review the schedule and if I made a mistake please let me know and I will be happy to correct it.
The driving schedule was made based on the days each parent is available to drive.
Schedules will be provided for you each day so that you know who you will be driving and to what location.
IMPORTANT: Due to the difficulty of assigning drivers according to the number of students the driver can fit in their car, you may not be driving your own child to the service project(s). It may even be the case that you will not even be in the same service location as him/her. I apologize for the inconvenience, but my priority is getting students to the service sites.
Parents who are driving students to the service location should remain with the students throughout the service project.
Parents/drivers should not stop on the way to or from the service locations for any reason. It is important to keep on task and arrive on time out of respect for the people that will be waiting for us at the service locations and to the parents waiting for pick up at the end of the day.
It is encouraged that drivers engage in the service projects as it provides good examples for the students to observe.
Dress Code
Students must wear clothes they don't mind getting dirty (t-shirt, sport shorts or pants and tennis shoes). No volleyball shorts or short shorts. Please no sandals or flip-flops. Closed toed shoes are preferred.
Drivers are asked to dress comfortably as they will assist with the service projects the entire day.
Cell Phones
Students will not be allowed to use their cell phone while serving at any of the service sites. They are welcome to bring them with them to use after they complete their service project.
Code of Conduct
There is a zero tolerance for bullying, misbehavior or behaving in an uncharitable manner towards any student or adult. Depending on the severity of the action, parents may be called to discuss a resolution.
